- Mayans had a written hieroglyphic language that was carved into monuments and on stone and bones
- it was also painted on pottery or written in book or bark paper
- they describe religious rituals, astronomy, and divination
- Dresden, Madrid, and Paris codices were the only codices that werent distroyed by the Spanish for their religious content
- The Dresden Codex had methods of solar eclipse
- Some of the Mayan hieroglyphics were later translated into Latin script and turned into books
